Update: 12/14/2009:
Some R&D on the GT Mustang has been completed, and we verified fitment using some existing parts.
Available through Lakewood, we now have adjustable Rear Upper & Lower Control Arms, Drive Shaft Safety Loop, K-Member and Adjustable Pan Hard Bar. These components alone will definitely make the car launch harder at the track and be more consistent with the benefit of full adjustability.
The Mr.Gasket Line has some of those must have products like exhaust gaskets made from stronger material and rear end differential gaskets for the 8.8" housing.

Prestolite Performance, the parent company of benchmark brands Mr. Gasket, Mallory, ACCEL, Lakewood, Hays, and AnchorTrax, has announced the acquisition of two 2010 American Muscle cars. The Camaro and Mustang were chosen since these machine have been a benchmark in the industry since day one.
The Chevrolet Camaro is a LS3 V8 SS model with a six speed manual transmission and was delivered to the Cleveland, Ohio based facility on Saturday, October 24th. The Ford Mustang is a GT model with a five speed manual transmission and 3.73 ratio performance rear axle and was delivered the week prior.
Baseline track testing promptly began Sunday October 25th at Dragway 42 near West Salem, Ohio. “Both vehicles offer impressive performance in factory trim, the Camaro ran a traction limited 13.25 @ 108 MPH ¼ mile e.t. and the Mustang trailed slightly at 13.65 @ 102 MPH” explained Scott Stutler, Project Manager for the vehicles. “Both cars returned modest 60’ times in the low 2.10’s”. Since Lakewood and Hays are both housed in the same facility, these cars will be used to help develop clutch, suspension and drivetrain components that will help improve quarter mile time, 60' times and drivetrain safety.
After a little racing on Sunday, both cars were taken back to the Prestolite Performance R&D facility and run on the Dynojet Chassis Dyno. Baseline dyno testing was completed for each car the Monday, October 26th. The SS Camaro made an impressive 365hp & 363tq at the wheels, while the GT Mustang produced 278hp & 294tq. Negotiations for a 2010 Challenger are in process and targeted to be complete by the end of December.
The vehicles where purchased as part of a key initiative within Prestolite Performance, known internally as Operation Muscle. “Over the coming several months, these vehicles will be serving as development mules for countless new products across all of our brands. They will also serve as company mascots to our industry, letting our customers know that Prestolite Performance is well positioned to be a leader in the Performance Automotive Aftermarket” explains Eric Scheinerman, CEO of Prestolite Performance.
Product fitments have already begun for the Mustang, as many components are carried over from the 2009 model year. “We have already verified fitment of our Lakewood control arms (p/n 20705, 20105), ACCEL Silver Tip Spark Plugs (p/n AP4308S), and Lakewood strut tower brace (p/n 39100)” explained Engineering Manager Graham Fordyce.
The SS Camaro has now been on the rack for a few weeks and is presenting us with a unique challenge. For 2010, GM used an IRS (Independent Rear Suspension) which allows for better handling and a much smoother ride compared to the traditional solid axle. Adjustments to the toe angle are made through the Toe Link, and the camber is tweaked through the Lower Control Arms. The Trailing Link controls longitudinal movement during acceleration and hard braking, while the Stabilizer Bar modulates body roll. For better rear suspension tuning, the Lakewood Engineers re-designed the Toe Link it a tubular piece which is stronger and adjustable for accurate “toe angle”. If added strength is needed w/o adjustability, there will be a non-adjustable version that will simply re-place the original stamped steel units. Also in the works is a tubular Trailing Link with urethane bushings, for overall strength improvements to the IRS for better launch control.
